This is to you...80 Robinson...

We will be up there on the 35th floor
Well.....it's official!! We got THE apartment!!  This is a great weight off our shoulders as I am leaving on Monday to bring Bailey to Hong Kong. But like most things, completing one thing always creates another problem and this is no exception.  Our apartment is a similar size to our house in Dallas, but the bedrooms are down right small and we have a dining room "wall".  But, did I tell you it has a AWESOME views!

Due to the layout of the master bedroom, we won't be able to fit a bed any larger than a FULL! This might not sound that bad for some, but Melissa and Bailey have grown accustomed to spreading out in the king mattress we have back at home...and guess who gets what is left over.... But, with that being said, this is such a great building with all the amenities you would expect....along with a few unusual ones, such as a bowling alley, a racket ball court and an indoor pool just to name a few. Down the street, there is a taxi stand and 2 grocery stores within a 5 minute walk.  In the opposite direction is a trail that takes you to the famous Hong Kong Peak.

So, how do I fit a queen bed in here?
I brought Melissa to a furniture store I found earlier this week on the far side of the island to take a look at pieces I found. The full bed will fit, but now I am having a hard time finding a mattress that fits the bed.  This is another example of how things are made more difficult than they really need to be.  At the Sealy mattress store there are 3 different sizes of "full" and NONE fit the bed we have chosen...of course not, that would have been just too easy! Needless to say this bed will fit the room but I am having a hard time finding a mattress that will fit this bed. I might just start over and head over to Ikea, but I am not looking forward to their mattress selection.  Anyone who has stayed an a "less expensive" European hotel knows exactly what I am talking about.

Just before we went down to the train station Melissa spotted a Macauese restaurant, so we gave it a try as it was still lunch time. Macau is a former Portuguese colony, so they use similar ingredients as in Brazilian cooking which Melissa and I LOVE! When you take a seat the waiter will bring a class of hot water, I always thought it was for drinking, no thank you. I noticed another table cleaning their silverware in the glass.  Strange, but that was not as strange as the guy I saw drink his AFTER he cleaned his silverware with it, yuck! What is the point of cleaning it off if you are still going to ingest it? Back to the food, we had some baked chicken and rice curry dish that was recommended to us by our table mates as a traditional Macauese dish, and had oven baked sardines that reminded me of the ones I would get in Brazil.

See the blue cup with the spoon in it... clean your spoon in hot water and have a drink, why not

  1. How funny about washing your silverware and then drinking the water. . . a very strange tea indeed!

I am very much enjoying reading your blog and will look forward to following your adventures!
