This is the first Sunday Melissa has had off for a while, so we took full advantage of it. We started off by exploring the area around our temporary apartment in Kennedy Town, but as you could guess..... we ended up at the mall.
The strange thing about these double decker buses and trams is that there are 3 different prices, sitting on top, standing, and sitting below.Which do you think is the most expensive? Hint - It's not what you might think - standing is not the cheapest option!
The largest mall on Hong Kong Island is IFC, but we are not doing it justice by calling it a mall. The basement has a express train to the airport, access to the underground rail network, movie theater, and every designer store you can think of... yep, that one too!
But, one of the coolest things is that there is a maze of catwalks connected to the mall to adjacent buildings giving you quick access to all over Central (the main business district) without having to ever step foot on the sidewalk. Crazy!
We had some time to kill so we decided to see the Adjustment Bureau. You purchase your tickets at a kiosk in the mall, and pay by swiping your Octopus Card on the sensor. The RFID Octopus Card is like a refillable prepaid credit card that can be used for purchases all over the island including Starbucks (Melissa!), 7-11, metro tickets, and Mc Donalds to name just a few. This is going to be our new best friend as they use a lot of coins in HK and we already have a collection on our dresser.
After the movie we walked along the waterfront toward our apartment. All you have to do is look out over the water to realize.... we are not in Dallas anymore.
The tall building in the background is the ICC Mall, the sister property that is equally as impressive as IFC - I'm sure we'll be heading that way this Sunday... or next...

You sound just like your mom... we always find the mall no matter where we travel....:)
ReplyDeleteSo if standing is the most expensive fare because you can hop right off so I am guessing that riding the top is the cheapest? At least they are not like the tour bus in New York City where someone I know had to ride on the roof when it was icy cold and beginning to snow... remember?
