I must say we totally take for granted how simple things are in the US. Every 2 step process there turns into at least 12 here, if not more! And that's just the bank and the cell phone store. We have not gotten to setting up cable, gas, water, electricity or internet yet. I can't even imagine how complicated those are going to be.
Today we went back to Vodaphone, but to a different branch and had some luck. The guy that helped us actually took summer classes in the midwest and understood English and could think out of the box - you know, because we "only" have temporary HKID cards. Of course it cost us more money, a substantial deposit to be exact BUT now we finally have
our iPhones! Sending text messages was torture with those old phones, it was like one big run on word ("wantooomeeetforlunchtoda") because we were worried of changing the keyboard back to Chinese characters - at least a 15 minute exercise to undo each time!

the same all over the word, but it is very different here let me tell you. Between the banker's super strong accent and him trying to sell us 6 accounts, I was about to strangle the guy. But I think it must be a common issue, as we heard an Australian in the next room getting very heated with his guy too.
The lesson of the day is... If someone tells you "no," ask someone else until you get the answer you are looking for!
And just because someone speaks English doesn't mean they actually understand what you are saying. Must remember - nodding or shaking of the head doesn't necessarily mean comprehension - this applies especially to Melissa's late night taxi drivers!
On a side note, we should have our apartment 100% finalized by Friday - crossing our fingers! Please cross yours too!
