Our Bailey

On November 7th, Bailey our loyal friend and the best companion we could have ever asked for passed away in our arms.

It is really hard to put into words how very much she meant to us. She has been with us through so much. We were just kids when we got Bailey - 18 and 19. I was a sophomore and Melissa was a freshman at Texas Tech University in Lubbock when we went down to South Plains Mall's pet store and bought her for $79. That was the best $79 we have ever spent. She taught us so much. About responsibility. About life. About love. About each other.

Since then, we've graduated from college, moved from Lubbock to Dallas, settled into "adulthood" - got married, moved into our first apartment, started our professional careers, bought and sold our first house and then our second...and undertook our biggest adventure yet - moving across the world to Hong Kong. She was with us through it all. Melissa and I were talking the other night about how she was always with us as we checked off all these important "milestones" in our lives - the only one missing was us having our first child. We instantly stopped and said to each other - she was our first child..
Giving Melissa a kiss before she heads to work
Everywhere we look there is a void - a quietness. We miss her so much - from the pitter patter of her feet on the hardwood floors to her pushing open doors to see what we we are doing...or standing in front of doors that she wants us to open for her.  Bailey was a loyal dog that always put herself within arms reach of us loving to be right next to us. When we were sad or sick,  she was always there to cuddle and give us kisses. She also was oddly concerned with us hiccuping - she would stop whatever she was doing and try to give us kisses.

For those of you who knew her, loved her or were scared of her (that is until she let you in and you saw how smart and sweet she truly was), you know how much she meant to us. At fourteen and a half years  old, she lived a long and full life and she gave us memories we will cherish forever - from Lubbock to Dallas and all the way to Hong Kong.

Our only comfort is that we loved Bailey so much and she knew that and that is all that matters. She was SO LOVED. In her last minutes she managed to give both of us kisses so as to say good bye.

Bye bye Bailey girl. We love you so much and we will see you again one day. Until that day, you will forever live on in our memories.
