A Great Day on the Ocean Road

We had to get up early to catch the van for our early morning departure for the Great Ocean Road tour. There was nothing to see for the first hour or so as we drove out of Melbourne, so we caught up on some much needed sleep before arriving at our first stop Bells Beach. Bells Beach is a great surfing beach and has been used for making movies such as Point Break  (sorry, I never saw it)..

When we got back to the van the driver was making tea and spreading a black goo over the biscuits. We have never tried Vegemite but when he mentioned it was a spread made from yeast, we didn't care if it was as Australian as kangaroos.  No, thank you!

From Bells Beach we headed down the coast stopping at a few other view points to admire the scenery and the Great Ocean road sign for a photo of course.

Next we headed inland and stopped at a place that is known for having koalas sleeping in the eucalyptus trees and birds. Melissa is not a fan of the critters, so she became worried when the driver found some birdseed to lure out the birds. That is fine, more for me.

The birds were lining up to get some!
After feeding the birds, it was time for us to eat, so the tour stopped at a nearby town and let us loose. We sniffed out a fish and chips shop, we couldn't get enough of that on this trip!

After lunch, we went for a walk through an ancient fern tree forest with trees that were a few hundred years old, I felt like we were in Jurassic Park.

The headline on the tour was the 12 Apostles rock formation. We knew when we arrived as it was an absolute zoo. There were people taking helicopter flights for a closer look of the formations. We decided just to walk along the beach for our look. With each wave the limestone formations get smaller and smaller, one day they will be gone!

You can get a better view of the 12 Apostles from the viewing platform
The last stop was London Bridge, which was disconnected from the mainland in 1990 when the arch collapsed.
